The Teviot Valley offers a genuine rural New Zealand experience. This area, running from Roxburgh in the north to Raes Junction in the south is a thriving farming and orcharding community, rich in gold mining history and opportunities for recreation and relaxation. Visit the local Bakehouse, heated baths, orchards, honey suppliers, fruit growers -pick your own cherries/apricots in season.

Millers Flat Bakehouse – This lovingly restored bakehouse opens the first weekend of every month and makes delicious fresh bread the old fashion way
You can’t leave the valley without tasting/visiting Marsh’s creamy clover honey in Ettrick
Drive up the Mt Benger behind Ettrick (4WD vehicle required) and admire the views over the valley
Visit the Lonely Graves as you drive/bike along the Clutha Gold trail to Beaumont pub, where you can enjoy whitebait and oysters in season
Drive up to Lake Onslow and try your luck at fishing.
Cycling…
The Clutha Gold trail runs through the Teviot Valley. This is a new(ish) section of trail connecting south of the Central Otago rail trail and the trails being built from Cromwell/Clyde/Alexandra. It is an undiscovered gem. Check it out here.
Local bike hire (including electric bikes) can be arranged in Roxburgh at Highland Bike Hire. They can arrange shuttles & repairs too. Call Alastair and chat to the friendly team to arrange your time on a local trail.
Vineyards – We recommend visiting the beautiful Grey Ridge Vineyard in Alexandra once you leave here, book a night there and get a free vineyard tour and tasting.
